Remote Interviews

Remote broadcast interviews are here to stay. And that’s a great thing – it makes it even easier for you to share your expertise with the world.

Here’s a few tips to make every remote media interview a seamless experience:

First, make sure the technology is working as it should be —That’s your Wifi connection. Your platform (whether that be Skype, Zoom, Teams). Your webcam. Your audio.

Make sure your computer’s battery is full and that you’ve closed out any other programs that may ping or pop up. And turn your phone on silent!

You also want to curate your setting. That means setting up in a quiet space with no background noise or possible interruptions.

Aim to set the scene that will appear behind you on camera. You want a bit of dimension, not too plain or too busy. And if you can get some company branding in there, extra points to you.

For the camera set up, note that you want your eyes to be level with the webcam — this is just as important as looking in someone’s eyes when talking in-person.

For the most flattering lighting, set the light to come from behind your screen – not from behind or above you.

And finally, Smile! You’re ready to go live.
